The countdown is officially on. Just under 10 weeks until Ironman Lake Placid. I am truly beginning to get very excited for this race. If you missed it, Amy and I will be running Ironman Lake Placid two weeks before we walk down the aisle to say ‘I do’.
“Normal people” continue to tell us we are absolutely crazy for taking on this endeavour just two weeks before our wedding. We, on the other hand, clearly are not what most would consider normal, and are thrilled about thanking this journey together. We are not concerned about our time, a 16:59:59 would be completely acceptable and exciting to us.
We are looking at lake placid as a metaphor for marriage. Many ups and downs, good times and bad, easy times and hard, but hard work, perseverance, trust, and love will help to get us through all obstacles that are in our way.
Ten weeks may sound like a long time, but in the grand scheme of ironman training, it comes much quicker than you’d think. There are only 8 long training rides left, only 8 long training runs left, plus a taper week. It is both exciting and a little nerve wracking for the event to be coming so quickly. We know we are putting in the work, we know what needs to be done in the coming weeks…all that remains is to toe that start line, push our hardest through that race and cross that finish line together, the iron-couple!
