Every year right around this time, people begin to look back on the last year, reflect on their experiences, and create goals they hope will shape the new year. As an endurance athlete, I am doing this more than just in early January. Endurance athletes reflect on our experiences much more frequently. At the beginning and end of a big training block, before and after a race, and at the beginning and end of the season. These are the times I typically reflect on everything from my training to my personal life and everything in between.
So, as the new year approaches, it is not as meaningful for me to reflect back on the last year and set goals for myself as I had already sat down and done this quite a few times. This year I am focusing on getting faster and actually racing as opposed to participating. This is very different from my previous years, but I have gotten to a point in my triath-life where I am no longer satisfied with just finishing. I know that I have untapped potential, and I am ready to find my limits, and push through them.
As far as my personal life, I want to spend more quality time with Amy and our two dogs, read more, and write more of my experiences here to share. I want to cook more, and eat out less and try to eat more green foods!
